The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in the cancellation of university graduation ceremonies, a summit and a June health conference in Milwaukee.
Tourism officials in Wisconsin’s largest city estimate losses amount to $52 million from almost 70 events which won’t be held.
68,000 hotel rooms which had been booked may sit empty.
The losses will more than double if the Democratic National Convention in August is called off.
Local officials say some of the lost revenue may be recovered if college graduations, summits and conferences are rescheduled later in the summer.
Summerfest is still set and golf’s Ryder Cup hasn’t been called off yet.
