Even though their doors are closed to public entrances, the Aging and Disability Resource Center at 1701 Michigan Avenue in Manitowoc, continues to serve people by phone to the fullest capacity. The ADRC’s Wendy Hutterer, said that they have moved to a no-contact type of service. She also said that they are “Growing and serving in different ways under our other programs.”
As for nutrition, Hutterer says they “didn’t want to step back from their 5-day meal delivery system, but new precautions needed to be put in place to ensure the safety of staff, recipients, and volunteers.” Hutterer explains they package the meals and when people arrive to pick them up the area is sanitized, volunteers then deliver the food, and a visual safety check is made at each household, all while no physical contact is made during the Safer at Home restrictions.
They are also continuing to offer the Senior Bag Lunch Program through May. Bag lunches can be ordered by calling the ADRC of the Lakeshore at 920-683-4180. Call 2 business days in advance to order. ADRC Staff Members are stationed in the parking lot to direct the pick-up for participants. Lunches are available Monday through Friday and the pick-up time is between 11 am and Noon. The suggested donation for the bag lunch will be $3.00. Visit the ADRC website to view May’s menu.
