Big Brothers Big Sisters of Manitowoc County, whose mission it is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth, is continuing to do just that, albeit a little different than normal.
Executive Director Hung Nguyen, explains how the Bigs and Littles are staying connected. “Our kids are engaged by being involved in our games night,” Nguyen explained. “What we do is we organize activities online for our kids to participate in, and we also encourage the Bigs and Littles to engage with each other online and find creative ways to stay connected.” Some of the ways they are doing that are by writing letters, exchanging arts and craft ideas, and by growing gardens together.
However, Nguyen says they are struggling a little, much like all small businesses and non-profits. Nguyen told SeehaferNews.com, “We are struggling to raise funds necessary to keep our funds going to keep our staff going, and live out our mission.” However, he explained that they are continuing to “engage in the community, and we continue to work hard at making sure our kids are being supported and that they are feeling connected.” Nguyen also spoke about how in times like this we need to “dig a little bit deeper and be kinder to our kids and neighbors.”
