Kiel High School has a new Head Football Coach.
He’s David Esswein a 2012 graduate of Kiel High School who takes over for Mike Dressler who stepped down earlier this year after seven seasons culminated by a trip to the schools first ever state football championship game in Division Four.
Esswein returned to Kiel upon graduating from Upper Iowa University in 2017 and has been a part of the KHS Football Staff the last three years coaching wide receivers and defensive backs. He has also been instrumental in the strength and condition program for several Kiel Athletic teams.
Esswein was part of the first Raider team to appear in back-to back playoff appearances in 2010 and 11 and held six receiving records upon graduation.
Athletic Director Steve Walsh said of Esswein’s hiring, “David Esswein will be an asset to our program with his knowledge of the game as well as through the relationships he has built over the last three years in our program. By hiring Coach Esswein many of the same principles and core values will continue to be a part of this program as well as continuing to challenge our student athletes both on and off the field and in the community.”
