Seehafer Broadcasting Sales Manager Terry Stevenson has been named the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association’s First Young Professional of the Year. Stevenson is one of the founding members of the WBA Young Professionals Committee and was the highest-ranked of the five young broadcasting professionals recognized this year for making a significant impact on their stations and communities.
Stevenson’s broadcasting career began as a sophomore in high school on a bit of a dare. He approached his grandfather and founder of Seehafer Broadcasting, Don Seehafer, and asked if he could air a 30- minute Christian music program on WQTC 102.3 FM. Mr. Seehafer said if he wanted it, he’d have to earn it. That’s exactly what Terry did, selling airtime to local businesses which began his journey in broadcasting. That has led him to his current position as Seehafer Broadcasting Sales Manager.
Stevenson believes young professionals are the future of broadcasting, bringing a unique perspective to an industry that has already stood the “test of time.” He says successful young professionals “bear the responsibility of learning with respect to the history of the field looking to the leaders who have been in broadcasting for decades and allowing those leaders to mentor, shape and mold them” adding “young professionals must embrace the vital importance of building relationships in every aspect of their broadcasting work.”
With that, Stevenson said his grandfather, Don Seehafer, was his best role model and advocate thus he’s dedicating this award to him. Terry and all honorees will be recognized later this year for their achievements.
