The executive director of Manitowoc’s Capitol Civic Centre said the downtown theatre remains closed during the Safer at Home Order, but that doesn’t mean they’re idle.
Matt Schliesman tells us even though the doors aren’t open, “There’s an enormous amount of work to be done administratively and planning in dealing with the ongoing health crisis.”
He explains that includes staff kept busy rebooking some shows which were canceled and planning others for next season.
Schliesman said he and staff members are working primarily from home as are many other people during the pandemic.
As for cancellations, the executive director stated “everything’s a moving target” because the Capitol has been closed since March 12th and shows since then have been postponed. He told us they will determine in early May what the June calendar looks like, and if the quarantine is still in effect they will have to reschedule.
He says the goal is to preserve as many shows and rentals as possible, even if they’re delayed to later in the year.
To make up for lost dates, Schliesman said the CCC is pursuing government programs and stepping-up private fundraising to fill the gap.
Their website of cccshows.org is current with rescheduled show date with a few others pending. Those with questions can call the Capitol Civic Centre at 683-2184.
