The High School Class of 2020 may have some unusual stories to tell at future reunions, like finishing studies at home, the Senior Prom that never happened, and a canceled spring sports season. While High Schools Seniors adapt to finishing studies online and move toward the future Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Senior Jordon Lawrenz talked about completing his Senior year at home via Google classroom.
Jordon explained that: “Every student has a Google account and there are a bunch of different assignments that teachers can post and they can post announcements along with a calendar. Once the student receives an email that a new post is in the classroom, they can go there and they will find the assignment for the day. Once the assignment is complete all you have to do is, hit the turn in button and the teacher receives the work.”
Jordon said he is on track to graduate this year even though he is spending less time on schoolwork because of the online aspect but added, you must be ready for the day. “Once you get into a routine, it’s just a lot easier for everyone. With school being online, it’s so much easier just to slack off and not do your work.”
Time spent with friends is one of the most missed activities during the stay at home high school. Spring sports have been canceled and there is no prom this year. Jordon was asked if a graduation ceremony is important to him.
“You only get to graduate once, there is only one high school ceremony so, if there wasn’t a ceremony, it would be a bummer for everybody. Our school is doing a really good job of keeping everyone informed, they have 2 dates selected in June and 2 dates selected in July that may make graduation possible.”
Lawrenz is planning to attend UW Green Bay/ Manitowoc Campus to start his post High School studies and is pursuing a Sports Broadcasting degree.
