The Wisconsin State Assembly met last week with a few items on the agenda.
Manitowoc Representative Paul Tittl made the trip to Madison, while making sure to adhere to social distancing guidelines, to make sure his voice was heard.
There were a couple of items that were passed, the first of which involved unemployment.
Tittl told SeehaferNews.com, “One of the biggest things I think people were curious about and wanted to do was…getting away with [the one week waiting period for unemployment]. We actually did do away with that, so people will be eligible as soon as they are laid off.”
Before the change, those applying for unemployment wouldn’t lose out on that week of pay, but rather it was tacked on to the end of their time without a job.
The other item was aimed at helping healthcare facilities. The assembly passed a measure that allows those who were previously licensed in the medical field to return to that job without having to be relicensed.
The reason for this was to be prepared if Wisconsin were to see a drastic spike in cases and need for more medical personnel.
Tittl did say that he is thankful we have not reached that point as of yet, but the state would rather be safe than sorry.
