The 48-year-old Manitowoc man who entered an Alford plea in a child neglect case is due to be sentenced this afternoon.
Eduardo Gamez was arrested in July of 2018 after a 3-year-old child he and 39-year-old Jamie Schrank were caring for died. The child had suffered severe internal and external injuries, according to police reports.
Those reports also indicated that the duo was using methamphetamine at the time of the child’s death.
An Alford plea is used when the defendant denies any wrongdoing but admits that the evidence against them would likely result in a conviction.
Gamez will be in front of Judge Robert Dewane at 1:30 this afternoon, where he will be sentenced on charges including Party to a Crime, Chronic Neglect of a Child Resulting in Death.
