The man who served as the chaplain for the Marquette University basketball team for more than three decades has died at the age of 96.
The Reverend William Kelly began working at the school in 1961.
In an interview filmed in 2011, he explained his role with the team was to be “a sacramental presence, a willing ear and encouragement.” Kelly stepped down from the position at the end of the season five years ago.
The family says he died Thursday night.
