Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels
Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels is optimistic that life as we knew it before COVID-19 “will return soon.”
Thanks in part to “the vast majority of citizens” following the Safer at Home orders, Manitowoc County has not been as heavily impacted by the virus, with only 5 cases being confirmed. Nickels said “If we continue down that path, I hope that we can get out of this sooner rather than later.”
However the Mayor is “very disappointed” in some individuals who continue to defy Governor Evers “Safer at Home” Order by participating in contact sports and utilize playground equipment.
“The last thing I want to do is take away things we are still able to do,” Nickels said. “I’m trying to be as stern as I can, and giving people opportunities, letting people k now we are watching.”
Translation, Repeat offenders maybe subject to penalties allowed under the order.
While police officers don’t want to be out and about being the bad guys, if it comes down to it, they will issue out the fines, which can be up to $250 and/or spending up to 30 days in jail.
