Manitowoc Lincoln High School graduate & Newtonburg resident, Alyssa Fischer has been named this year’s recipient of the Horizon League’s Bobby Fong Award.
Fischer was a member of the Milwaukee Panthers women’s basketball team and was also President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee the past 2-years, where she thrived as a student leader & voice of athletes on campus.
The award is named after the late Bobby Fong, who served as President of Butler University from 2001 to 2011. The honor is given to the student-athlete or team that “best represents the Horizon League & its’ core values of integrity, respect & stewardship.”
Fong’s widow Suzanne commented, “Alyssa not only supports her fellow athletes herself, but she has found ways to enable them to help & support one another. As Bobby did, she lives out her faith in service to others. In so doing, she encourages everyone around her to make their worlds a little better. Bobby would be so proud of her, as am I.”
Panthers Head Basketball Coach Kyle Rechlicz added in part, “Alyssa is incredibly deserving of the Bobby Fong Award,” saying she “embodies the defining characteristics of integrity, respect & stewardship on a daily basis. It was ingrained in her early in life by her amazing parents, Craig and Amy.”
Fischer was named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team with a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average & will graduate with a degree in Information Science & Technology.
