Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich is defending the decision not to ask for Election Day help. Genrich says he didn’t request the Wisconsin National Guard to man the polling places because he wasn’t sure they were trained and didn’t know what they could do. The Guard and the Wisconsin Election Commission says the troops were trained and ready to go. Genrich has apologized to voters who had to wait in long lines to cast their ballots Tuesday. Green Bay closed all but two of its 31 polling locations for the spring primaries.
