Former Milwaukee Bucks All-Star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is donating 900 pairs of safety goggles to his alma mater U-C-L-A’s Hospital.
The Hall of Famer said he did it to thank doctors and nurses for risking their lives.
The Bucks drafted Lew Alcindor number-one overall 51 years ago yesterday (4/8/1969). The next day Alcindor adopted the Muslim name Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
He led Milwaukee to the N-B-A championship in 1971 and was named Finals M-V-P.
Abdul-Jabbar started wearing protective goggles after having his eye scratched in a 1974 preseason game.
