A shot fired into the ceiling of a waiting room at University Hospital in Madison Tuesday led to a WiscAlert being issued.
Two Fitchburg police officers had brought a man to the hospital for treatment and evaluation at about 11:00 a-m – when he tried to take the service weapon from one of the officers.
The shot was fired while they struggled, but no one was hit.
The officers were able to regain control of the man and the shelter-in-place order was dropped just minutes later.
That man’s identity hasn’t been released. Officers from the University of Wisconsin Police Department responded to the scene to help.
