The City of Manitowoc Parks and Recreation Department is reaching out to residents to clarify what is allowed in terms of use of Park Properties and Facilities during Governor Evers’ Safer at Home Executive Order.
Director of Public Infrastructure Dan Koski says that Park trails and Open Space can still be utilized. However, Playgrounds are closed and use of Park Equipment is prohibited. Use of Fitness equipment is also prohibited plus Public bathrooms and rental facilities are closed. All aforementioned closures are in effect through April 24th unless extended or superseded by another direct or Executive Order.
Individuals may not engage in team or contact sports that do not comply with Social Distancing Requirements such as Basketball, Football, Soccer or Ultimate Frisbee. Dog Parks, Disc Golf Courses, Hiking, and Biking Trails remain open and Kayak launches at Schuette and Manitou Parks are installed and open provided individuals participating in these activities do so at their own risk and comply with Social distancing requirements.
Also, Visiting Public and State Parks is allowed provided individuals comply with Social Distancing Requirements.
Law enforcement will be watching but not fully enforcing part of the Order where violators would be subject to a $250 fine and/or spend up to 30 days in jail. Police Officers want to educate and inform the public as everyone adjusts to the “new normal” but repeat offenders could be subject to the penalty.
