Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted with their third Stolen Vehicle pursuit in the last week.
Sheriff Dan Hartwig says that they were requested to assist Brown County Sheriff’s Deputies late Thursday afternoon with a pursuit of a stolen vehicle from Chicago. Manitowoc County Deputies took over within the Town of Maple Grove as a 2008 Ford Pickup driven by 36-year-old Michael Link from Green Bay, reached speeds of near 80 miles an hour. The nearly 26-mile chase ended when Link pulled into a field access off State Highway 67 in the Town of Eaton and got stuck. He fled on foot and was apprehended a short time later.
A passenger, identified as 33-year-old Ashley DeGroot, remained in the vehicle and cooperated with authorities. No one was injured. Both Link and DeGroot were turned over to Brown County Sheriff’s Deputies while Manitowoc County Deputies referred charges to the DA’s Office charging Link with knowingly fleeing and recklessly endangering safety. Assisting on scene were the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Kiel Police, Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center and Hi-Way 42 garage.
Sheriff Dan Hartwig urges citizens to always secure their vehicles to help prevent unnecessary thefts.
