One week after it ran aground in Green Bay, a 740-foot freighter has been freed.
The U-S Coast Guard says the Algoma Conveyor lost power as it approached the Fox River Terminal last Thursday, about five miles from the river’s mouth.
Crews removed about three-thousand metric tons of its cargo of road salt, then three tugboats were able to pull it free.
It was able to reach port under its own power.
While it was stuck there, the ship’s stern had partially blocked the channel and other ships had to be cautious as they moved around it.
No crew injuries were reported and none of the cargo leaked.
