The Manitowoc Police Department has arrested a suspect after a theft of a vehicle, and an attempted robbery at a Manitowoc business.
The story begins on March 5th, when a vehicle was reported stolen from the Manitowoc/Two Rivers YMCA. The victim told officers that the keys for his 2015 Toyota Corolla were taken from his locker, and the vehicle was gone.
A review of the security footage from the Y revealed two individuals who got into the vehicle and drove away with it. One of the suspects was arrested on March 6th, but the other was not.
The second suspect was identified using the footage, and yesterday he was also identified as being a suspect in a burglary case.
Police were called to the effected business in the 800 block of North 8th Street at around 11:15 Tuesday night. The owner of the store told police that he captured one of the suspects who was fleeing the area, but video surveillance showed there was a second suspect as well.
The other man was identified as the same 20-year-old that had taken part in the vehicle theft from The YMCA.
Officers brought the man to the Manitowoc County Jail yesterday, but he has refused to speak with officers.
The MPD is recommending charges including Possession of Burglary Tools, Burglary, Theft, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without the Owner’s Consent.
