The jury has acquitted a 21-year-old Iowa County man who had been facing first-degree intentional homicide charges in his stepfather’s death. .
Austin Valdez told police he was protecting his mother when he found her being choked by 46-year-old Robin Reeson in March 2018.
Last week was the second time Valdez had gone to trial for the killing, but the first one ended with a hung jury.
Prosecutors had argued the defendant’s use of deadly force was disproportionate to the danger his mother was facing.
