Senior guard Markus Howard of Marquette has been named a Sporting News First Team All-American.
Howard is the first Marquette player to be selected for the first team since Dwyane Wade 17 years ago. Three Marquette players in history have been honored that way.
Howard made the second team last year. He was a unanimous All-Big East First Team selection for a second straight season this year.
He also was the nation’s leading scorer at 27-point-eight points-a-game and is on the watch list for at least a half-dozen post-season awards.
