Due to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, Manitowoc Lincoln High School has canceled a student trip to France.
A news release came late last night after President Trump announced that a month-long ban on travel from Europe to the United States starts at midnight Friday. The European trip was scheduled for March 14th through the 26th.
Manitowoc Superintendent of Schools Mark Holzman said, “The safety and well-being of our students, staff and families remain our top priority.” He added, “At times the Manitowoc Public School District will act out of an abundance of caution to protect everyone’s health and well-being. This is one of those times.”
Holzman also stated, “The volatility of the coronavirus has become even more unpredictable in the past several days, and we are regretfully canceling the upcoming French LIVE trip. We share your disappointment in the cancelation, but are committed to putting student safety first.”
School and district officials plan on meeting today with students, chaperones and families involved to answer questions related to the trip cancelation. Individual meetings will be scheduled with anyone unable-to-attend today’s meeting.
The MPSD is advocating for the maximum refund possible as the district works with the tour company. Lincoln’s World Languages Program travels every two years to France, Germany, and Spain.
