Manitowoc County Executive Bob Zigelbauer says final 2019 budget numbers provided some great news.
Zigelbauer told SeehaferNews.com that the county has “generated $2.3 million of surplus from revenues increasing, expenses decreasing, and one-time revenues. We are happy about that.”
$1.5 million of that money sits in the general fund. Half of that, roughly $750,0000, will remain in a “rainy day fund”, $665,000 will go towards early retirement debt service, $80,000 for upgrades in the Treasurer Department while $20,000 will be used to purchase a new tractor for county parks maintenance.
Zigelbauer says this surplus is a “sign of general prosperity in the community” and that this trend could lead to lower taxes.
Meanwhile, the replacing of the County Highway S bridge is on schedule to be completed in May, the same time a $400,000 renovation project for the pavilion at Maribel Caves is set to begin.
