Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley says progress is being made with Thermo-Fischer to purchase the former Hamilton plant property.
He tells SeehaferNews.com that the City Council devoted about 30 minutes of discussion in closed session with the City Attorney this week of a proposed sale agreement that was forwarded to them last month.
“The intent would be that the river edge would be retained for public use,” Buckley explained. “but the upland portions of the site toward Jefferson Street, which is about 7 acres, very strong interest in seeing that become available for development.”
Buckley added, “You can well appreciate environmental considerations and things like environmental reliability insurance are significant issues to be dealt with there. The City doesn’t want to take any undo risks on behalf of the tax payers.”
The Two Rivers City Manager emphasizes that “You can’t overstate how important that property is to the future of Two Rivers. A solid majority of the Council is committed to seeing this through.”
