While most of us love living near Lake Michigan, Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley says “Right now we are in one of those times where it is a little scary.”
He and others in the cool city are very concerned about the impact of Lake Michigan water levels on their big regional attraction, Neshotah Beach.
Buckley tells SeehaferNews.com we’re now at record levels. He elaborated saying that the Army Corps of Engineers predicts that the normal spring rise in water levels will compound that problem saying “You will be adding 9 to 12 inches on top of already record high levels.”
So, we asked the City Manager what can be done?
He said some irons are in the fire so to speak, including the Corps planning a dredging of the outer harbor in the city, and depositing that sand near the south end of the beach as they have done in the past.
While that may help, Buckley called it a “band aid” on the problem.
Due to the size of the lake Buckley says “We can only do watchful waiting.”
Greg Buckley points out that as recently as 7-years ago, the water level on the big lake was way down to the point that they added 400 more feet of depth to the beach.
