The Green Bay Packers won’t be throwing the money around as freely this off-season – even though they have some pretty major needs.
Reports indicate the Packers have about 18-and-a-half million dollars in cap space. That means they won’t be signing four high-profile free agents – like last year. Another roadblock is written in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement where N-F-L teams can no longer backload contracts.
General manager Brian Gutekunst will have to get a little more creative this off-season to find solutions and fill the holes in the roster.
The Packers are also tentatively scheduled to host the Cleveland Browns for a series of practices during training camp next summer.
This is not the first time the Packers have invited another team to a combined practice. Last summer, the Packers and Houston Texans practiced together twice in early August – then the two teams met in a preseason game.
The report of the practices with the Browns came out unofficially while teams and players were leaving the N-F-L Combine in Indianapolis.
