Emergency responders in Portage say a father and two young children managed to escape the fire that destroyed their home Wednesday morning.
Several fire departments sent units to the scene at about 9:00 A-M. Witnesses say the father went back into the home after getting his children to safety. He was trying to rescue the family dog, but the pet got out on his own.
No injuries were reported and no names have been released.
It’s possible the fire was sparked by a space heater that was running.
