The relay for Life may be five months away, but the kickoff event for this year’s walk is taking place tonight.
We reached out to the Senior Event Support Manager, Jennifer Braun and she explained that the event will allow those who want to learn more about the event to do so, and it will celebrate a huge milestone.
This year is actually the 25th anniversary of the event. SeehaferNews.com asked Braun how much they have raised over the past 25 years. Braun said they are trying to compile that information but, “it is hard to find some of the early stuff, unfortunately. So many systems have changed.”
She did say that they are aiming to raise $80,000 this year, with some of it going to “programs around the country”, but “some of that money stays in Wisconsin.”
Some people may not know what the Relay is all about. Braun described the event as “a walk that takes place in late July in Two Rivers Central Park…We celebrate the successes we’ve had in the fight against cancer, we remember those we have lost, and we learn more about what we can do to fight back against the disease.”
The 25th Anniversary Relay for Life kick-off event will be held in the Michigan Room at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers. The event will kick off at 5:00, with a special guest speaker, door prizes and food.
