A bill aimed at preventing a backlog of sexual assault test kits will not pass the Wisconsin Legislature.
Last year, the Wisconsin Senate approved a bill that would put guidelines in place for the collection, testing and storage of the kits. It had the support of Attorney General Josh Kaul, but Assembly Republicans claiming they were improving the bill, added language dealing with immigration and school choice.
Democrats said those are “poison pills” that had nothing to do with the issue. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said he didn’t have support to take up the bill as amended.
Kaul slammed Assembly Republicans for failing to concur on the Senate bill.
