Just a few days after David Heiden was sentenced to life in prison, another person involved in the death of 2-year-old Gilbert Grant II will have her plea hearing today.
Rena Santiago, the mother of the child, will be in court at 2:00 this afternoon.
Santiago, along with Heiden and roommate Bianca Bush, was arrested in April of 2019 after Grant died and the trio admitted to abusing him. The abuse included repeatedly hitting the boy with their hands, a shoe and a belt over a several month period, with Heiden admitting he violently shook Gilbert with force while yelling at him to go to sleep.
Santiago is facing six separate charges including Physical Abuse of a Child Causing Death, and Causing Bodily Harm, as well as Chronic Child Neglect, and Prostitution.
Bush is next scheduled to be in Manitowoc County Court on March 4th for a scheduling conference.
