The Manitowoc Noon Rotary Club is honoring its Police Officer and Citizen of the Year today during the service club’s luncheon at the Holiday Inn.
The Officer of the Year is Rebecca Schuettpelz, while the Manitowoc Public School District is receiving the Good Citizen of the Year Award.

Police officer Schuettpelz is being recognized for her work ethic & the positive image she portrays. During her 10-years with the MPD, Rebecca has taken on numerous job duties and roles with the department. Those include being a Field Training Officer, Drug Recognition Expert, Evidence Technician, Bike Patrol Officer/Trainer and is an Explorer Advisor.
The MPSD identified the need to re-evaluate their safety response system based on the increase of people doing violence against our nation’s schools. Following considerable research, the District adopted an all-hazard response system created for schools by the I Love U Guys Foundation. It allows all buildings in the school district to respond in

exactly the same way to anything from a medical incident to a fire to an active threat.
The Manitowoc school district worked to implement the safety response team and then held an all-staff training on the new safety response system last summer.
Noon Rotary President and former Chief Tony Dick will offer a welcome, pledge of allegiance and prayer before introducing Mayor Justin Nickels for some remarks. Police Chief Nick Reimer will make the award presentations.
