One of three defendants charged in the death of a two-year-old boy last April in Two Rivers was sentenced today to life in prison. 29-year-old David Heiden will be eligible for parole in 25 years. He had pled guilty to physical abuse of a child-repeated acts causing the death of Gilbert Grant II.
Officers responded to a Two Rivers residence for a report of a child not breathing. The child was pronounced dead a short time later. Court records show that Heiden, along with Gilbert’s mother Rena Santiago and Bianca Bush repeatedly hit the boy with their hands, a shoe and a belt over a several month period. Heiden admitted he violently shook Gilbert with force while yelling at him to go to sleep.
Court records show that Santiago returns to court this week for a plea hearing while a scheduling conference is scheduled for Bush next month.
