A local not-for-profit organization celebrated its first anniversary of operation this past Saturday at Time Out Sports Bar & Grill in Manitowoc. “Lean On Me Lakeshore” celebrated a year of collecting funds from the community, and dispersing them to families in Manitowoc County who may be struggling financially due to a child’s illness.
The celebration featured food, live music, and many prize baskets donated from several local businesses and residents.
Lean On Me Lakeshore board Vice-President Mackenzie Reed Kadow spoke with SeehaferNews.com, and said it all came to be when “A little girl very near and dear to all of our hearts, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.” She went on to explain that the family ran into a lot of additional expenses, including money for travel. The group then decided to form “Lean On Me Lakeshore” to help similar families throughout Manitowoc County with non-medical expenses such as food, utilities, and gas money to help ease their financial burden.
Kadow added that they have seen a big jump in the number of applications they’ve received in the last few months, and that they have been able to help 100 percent of qualified applicants.
There are also opportunities available for anyone who would like to help “Lean On Me Lakeshore” which can be found at LeanOnMeLakeshore.org, or you can also follow their fundraising events, as well as see photos and videos on their Facebook page.
