Many citizens and local dignitaries were present yesterday for an Open House and Ribbon Cutting for Core Treatment Services at 3 Riverview Drive located next to Holy Family Memorial.
CORE, Manitowoc’s newest Alcohol and Other Drugs of Abuse (AODA) facility, is a non-profit 16 bed residential and day treatment facility.
HFM is a “major partner” in this venture, and their President and CEO Brett Norell spoke with SeehaferNews.com after the ribbon cutting. He said “When we took the elevator pitch on CORE Treatment Services, it was a fantastic idea…It’s just so fulfilling to see it come to life.”
CORE Co-Executive Chris Gilbert was running a Sober Living program and says about 2-and-a-half-years ago, he realized something more needed to be done. He explained, “People would come to us and they would need a higher level of care than we could provide.” He said it killed him turning people away due to their inability to help, and that’s where the idea was born.
Carmen Persaud serves with Gilbert in a Co-Executive role, and she explained that passion and kindness towards our fellow man is important because “we don’t know what each person is going through…95% of all addictions stem from some kind of trauma in that person’s life.” She explained that CORE will help these people by getting to the core of the reason they started using in the first place.
Gilbert says they are hopeful to be accepting patients soon.
