At about 2:40 am on Monday morning, Officers of the Green Bay Police Department responded to a local hospital. The staff there had reported a patient causing a disturbance. Officers made contact with a 48-year-old Green Bay resident in the Emergency Department. Officers attempted to mediate the situation and restore peace and order within the hospital but were unsuccessful.
The man was arrested for disorderly conduct for his behavior and actions within the hospital. Once discharged, officers transported the male to the Brown County Jail. At the jail, the male experienced a medical emergency. Officers immediately began life-saving measures on the scene and continued until Green Bay Rescue took over. The male was transported via rescue back to a hospital and was later pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the in-custody death is ongoing. The Green Bay Police Department requested that the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation lead the investigation into the incident.
The investigation is expected to take an extended period of time. The cause of death is unknown and the Green Bay Police Department is assisting DCI as they proceed on with this investigation.
