A recent Gallup Poll found that Americans spent more of their leisure time inside libraries last year than they did being entertained at the movies, sporting events, museums, concerts or casinos.
Tim Gadzinski is Marketing Associate for the Manitowoc Public Library, and he said that people tend to think of libraries as that place with all the books, but they are much more than that. “Libraries are a hub of knowledge. A hub of entertainment. Really a community gathering spot.” He also explained that there are a lot of different things you can gain access to with your library card, and almost all of it is free. Gadzinski elaborated, saying you can get everything from “DVDs, to CDs, to even checking out ukuleles, or the adventure pass…which allows you access to the cultural institutions in our area, including the Hamilton Wood Type Museum, which was just added on. That is all free with your library card!”
The Poll found that women were particularly fond of libraries with an average of 13.4 annual visits compared to 7.5 for men. The local Marketing expert adds this is a testament to libraries “constantly evolving to meet the current needs of the people.” The Manitowoc Public Library will hold a ribbon-cutting for their first-floor redesign on February 19th at 4 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.
