A 51-year-old Kewaunee County woman is in the Manitowoc County Jail facing numerous charges in connection with stealing funds from her place of employment in Kiel. Police Chief Dave Funkhouser says his department has turned over their investigation to the County District Attorney’s Office with a referral for criminal charges against the female suspect to include over 200 felony counts related to “Theft By Virtue of Employment”, “Forgery”, “Uttering” and “Fraudulent Writings”.
Funkhouser says that they were contacted last June by a local business owner in the City of Kiel who suspected that one of his employees may have stolen funds from the business during their employment. Results of a financial audit were turned over to the police where further analysis and investigation determined that the suspect stole over $65,000 from the business while employed there in 2018 and 2019. An arrest warrant was issued and with help from Kewaunee Police, the suspect was taken into custody early this morning.
Her name and other details are not being released at this time as authorities continue their investigation.
