The Green Bay Police Department is reporting that there have been more vehicle thefts than normally are seen at this time of year.
While there is normally a spike around this time of year, they say there have been 16 cases of vehicle theft which is 60% above average.
One person has been arrested for the crime. According to Wisconsin Circuit Court Access, 22-year-old Timothy Gieseis has been arrested a total of three times in the month of January, but only once for stealing a vehicle.
His other arrests were for drug possession and retail theft.
Commander Paul Ebel with the Green Bay Police Department is once again reiterating that most if not all of these thefts occur because the vehicle was left unlocked, and the keys were left inside.
He put it simply, “If you leave your keys in the car, even if it’s hidden somewhere, they look, and you may wake up and find that your car is gone in the morning.”
