The 7th annual Music Is The Cure event is coming up this Saturday night at City Limits in Manitowoc. The funds raised at the event have helped over a dozen families and charities by raising more than $50,000 dollars in the first 6-years.
Seehafer News asked Chad Hoerth, a local real estate agent and President of Music Is The Cure, Inc., how the idea came about? “The singer in the band that I was in at the time was dealing with a lot of major health issues and had to go in for another surgery. Of course, when people have to go through that kind of stuff, insurance doesn’t cover everything. So we decided, well let’s put some bands together because that’s what musicians love to do. Get together to play and help people out. It actually went off very well. We raised some decent money and were glad we could help and just kind of walk away from it.”
Two months later, while hearing more stories from families dealing with cancer, Hoerth remembered receiving calls & messages asking if the musicians were going to do it again. “So it’s like ‘alright let’s try it again’. I think we did 15 or 16 bands for the next one. No cover charge. We just went off the raffles.”
Chad explains they’ve had over 48 bands play this event, including a few national bands and some of Wisconsin’s amazing local acts. This year, they have 7 bands scheduled to appear at City Limits with the music starting at 5 pm and continuing just after midnight. Doors open at 4:00 Saturday afternoon and a $10.00 donation serves as the cover charge AND gets you a ticket for a chance to win a signed guitar. Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the evening and there’s also a Silent Auction. Hoerth said this year’s recipients will be: Team Cody in Two Rivers, The Veterans Council of Manitowoc and Ken Skattebo who was just diagnosed with cancer recently.
