Every year, Sheboygan County’s UW Extension Community Development Educator Kevin Struck picks a town in the County to test their water and last year he chose the Town of Sherman.
The samples collected showed a rather troubling result.
Nearly one fourth of the 80 collected samples showed the presence of coliform bacteria, which is significantly higher than the 15% average statewide.
On a positive note, only 2 of the 19 contaminated wells had E. coli bacteria present.
Also, 5% of the samples exceeded nitrate limits, 25% exceeded limits for naturally occurring arsenic, but it should be noted that none of them were excessively.
