Many high schools and professional sports teams around the country have been changing their logos away from those with Native American symbolism, but one group that is not changing is the Sheboygan County Sheriffs Department.
Emblazoned on the side of all of their squad cars, and in their crest is the image of a native American wearing a headdress, an image Sheriff Cory Roeseler has nothing wrong with it.
He says that he sees how the logos can be a problem with sports teams, citing the violent nature of some sports, but said that it is different for them, because they are the “peacekeepers of Sheboygan County.”
He also points to the history of Native Americans in the area, as well as the origin of the name Sheboygan being from Native American culture.
Simply put, Sheriff Roeseler believes “There’s nothing negative about it.”
