Local unemployment numbers mirror those of statewide trends in December. Numbers released this afternoon by the State Department of Workforce Development show Manitowoc’s jobless rate last month was four percent. That’s a three-tenths of a percent increase from November and an eight-tenths of a percent jump from December 2018’s rate of three-point-two percent.
Meanwhile, Manitowoc County’s unemployment rate of three-point-seven percent is four-tenths of a percent more than November’s number of three-point-three percent and a seven-tenths bump from an even three percent from December of 2018. Preliminary December 2019 unemployment rates according to the DWD increased in 15 of the state’s 33 largest cities plus 63 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties-including Manitowoc.
The state’s jobless rate increased in December from three-point-three to three-point four percent—an overall increase of four-tenths of a percent for 2019. The lowest numbers were reported in April and May at two-point-eight percent.
The Badger state’s unemployment rate remains below the national average of three-and-a-half percent.
