The Green Bay Metro Fire Department is blaming an unattended stove for a fire in an apartment on the east side of the city.
Fire crews were called to the 800 block of North Webster Avenue at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, and they quickly attacked the blaze.
They were able to extinguish it in roughly 10 minutes.
One resident had to be rescued through a window due to heavy smoke blocking his escape through the main entrance.
Three cats were also rescued from the residence, and no injuries were reported.
The fire caused an estimated $55,000 in damage.
A statement from the Green Bay Police Department reminds residents to “never leave food cooking unattended. Also, have an approved fire extinguisher available in the home in the event a fire breaks out.”
