The Manitowoc Lincoln Boys Basketball team put together a solid performance last night to upset Bay Port 76-62 in an FRCC matchup at JFK Fieldhouse.
The victory, the Ships 4th in a row, avenges a 60-45 loss to the Pirates on December 12th.
Lincoln owned a 30-21 lead at halftime before extending the margin to 20, with about 14-minutes left to play.
Bay Port would continue to attack the basket and ultimately cut the deficit to just 5 in the final minutes, before the Ships would restore order on the court.
The Ships, now 8-6 overall, and 5-5 in league, received 31-points from Mason Dopirak 16 points & 13 rebounds by Josh Hoffman while Matus Dopirak chipped in 14 points.
Logan Geissler had 23 points & Andrew Thomas added 13 for the Pirates, who lost for just the 2nd time in 12 games.
Lincoln head coach Thadd Cornell said his defense “kinda letdown” toward the middle of the second half which allowed the Pirates to claw their way back.
Coach Cornell tells SeehaferNews.com the kids are starting to understand what it means to represent the school and community and taking pride in those areas.
He says they understand the need to “put your egos away” and how they are representing “more than yourself”.
Cornell successfully utilized a 9-player rotation again last night.
He said “The guys on the bench were positive and cheering. Every kid that went on the floor played hard, and did the little things right.”
He said this is a massive improvement from what was going on during their three game loosing streak.
Lincoln played without the services of junior Sam Jacobson, who was sidelined for a 2nd straight game after aggravating a hip-pointer at Pulaski.
The Ships are scheduled to host De Pere this Friday night as part of a Girl/Boy doubleheader at the JFK.
