The Two Rivers City Council passed several ordinance amendments during their meeting this week.
City Manager Greg Buckley says one allows the Police Department to charge those who pass bad checks totaling less than $250.
As things sit right now, the District Attorney’s Office only pursues charges if a bad check or a series of bad checks in a short period of time exceed that $250 mark.
Buckley told SeehaferNews.com, “A lot of merchants and other folks aren’t real happy if somebody writes a check for $100 or $150. This ordinance would give the Police Department the ability to cite someone into Municipal Court for an ordinance violation.”
The second ordinance is for permission to spend additional money to enhance development in TID #8 which is where the old Washington High School is located.
Buckley explains that this amendment would “allow for the spending of up to an additional $500,000 primarily for neighborhood infrastructure improvements in that TIF, and within a half-mile of its boundaries, but also it would allow for assisting business with TIF Development Grants…that lie within a half-mile of that area.”
A third was defining where one can hang animal carcasses on their property, most commonly deer.
The amendment would limit those to the back yard or secluded “out of public view.”
It passed by a 4 to 1 vote however only 5 of 9 council members were present due to work obligations or illness.
Therefore, all matters needed to be passed unanimously by the gathered quorum representing a majority vote.
The carcass ordinance will be reconsidered when the Council meets for a “work session” next Monday night at City Hall.
