A student and staff fundraiser at Manitowoc Lincoln High School went far past their fundraising goal for Juvenile Diabetes Research.
Pies for Payton was held after the death of 2015 LHS graduate Payton Hynek, who died due to complications of Type-1 Diabetes.
Lee Thennes is the Principal at Lincoln, and he explained that they “worked with the family to really talk about awareness for diabetes.”
The timing of the fundraiser was perfect, because, as Thennes told SeehaferNews.com, “We were doing our character education campaign at school, and they were able to come and do an all school assembly.”
Students were able to donate to the program and in the process volunteer someone to get pied in the face.
Thennes explains they set a goal to raise a thousand dollars, but the students really stepped up raising over $1,500.
Principal Thennes got the first pie in front of the whole school in the JFK, and immediately volunteered his wife, Erin.
Thennes said Pies for Payton and the Teddy Bear Toss for Children’s Hospital held Friday night, are examples of “not just talking about compassion, but actually living it.”
