Last week there was an arrest made in the parking lot of The Haven men’s homeless shelter in Manitowoc.
We sat down with Michael Etheridge, the Director of The Haven to hear their side of the story.
He explained that “a guest was sitting in his car listening to music…We had a young gentleman drive his car onto the parking lot, nearly sideswiping our guest’s vehicle. The person got out and started to pick a fight with our guest.”
Etheridge made sure to clarify that the instigator was not a guest at the facility, but rather a member of the neighborhood where The Haven is located.
The man who started the fight then used his elbow to smash the guest’s windshield, causing him to exit his vehicle and wrestle with the man.
Etheridge explained to SeehaferNews.com that the man was reportedly upset because the guest of The Haven was allegedly playing his music too loud at “2:30 in the morning.”
Etheridge says that is not possible because guests of The Haven are not allowed outside after 10:00 PM.
Etheridge explained that man has voiced his displeasure of having the men’s homeless shelter located where it is.
We asked Etheridge why people are upset they are there, and he said “I think it’s probably a lack of education on men’s homelessness, and how much it’s been an issue in Manitowoc County for the last 25 years.”
He also said that anytime a new program such as theirs enters a neighborhood, it can be a problem.
He did say a majority of the residents of the neighborhood are happy they are there and serving the community, but not all agree.
Etheridge went on to invite anyone who wishes to learn more about The Haven and how they are helping struggling men by simply setting up a meeting with him.
