United Way Manitowoc County today announced that in 2019, Manitowoc County residents saved $111,646 on their prescription medications, a 29% increase in savings from 2018, thanks to their partnership with FamilyWize.
Through this partnership, United Way promotes and distributes free, easy to use FamilyWize Prescription Discount Cards. Locally, since beginning the partnership in 2009, United Way Manitowoc County has helped 6,135 people save a total of $675,370 on prescription medications.
“Manitowoc County residents shouldn’t have to choose between putting food on their table or taking their prescription medications,” said Ashley Bender, United Way Manitowoc County Executive Director. “Under United Way’s Basic Needs priority, we are tackling this issue by providing products and services that address income stability. Our partnership with FamilyWize allows us to get FamilyWize Prescription Discount Cards into the hands of those who need it most, saving Manitowoc County residents thousands of dollars a year on prescription medication costs and freeing up income for other just as important basic necessities.”
The FamilyWize card immediately lowers the cost of prescription medications by an average of 45% for people with and without insurance. Just by presenting the FamilyWize Card or mobile app at their local pharmacy, people can save on the cost of their medicine, with no strings attached. The free FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card can be used by anyone; uninsured, insured, or even people with Medicaid or Medicare. The use of the card is unlimited, does not require any personal information from the user and has no eligibility criteria.
To take advantage of the savings that FamilyWize offers, consumers can visit unitedwaymanitowoccounty.org to print off a card, stop by the United Way Manitowoc County office to pick up a card or download the free FamilyWize app. Companies can also call to request FamilyWize Cards for their employees.
