The Manitowoc Police Department has released their year-end numbers in relation to crimes committed and traffic crashes.
Chief Nick Reimer says the so-called “Party One” crimes continue to decline.
Those are crimes such as homicide, forcible rape, robbery, assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, and general theft.
Chief Reimer told SeehaferNews.com, “The grand totals have gone down four years in a row. We are really proud of that.”
Reimer says unusual winter weather (rain and refreezing) to start 2019 resulted in an uptick of traffic crashes in the first couple months of the year, but “there were several months…where we had lower crash rates than even 2018.”
2018 actually had the lowest number of crashes in the past five years.
The Chief adds that more traffic stops were made resulting in fewer accidents occurring within their jurisdiction.
Specific numbers were not released.
All at MPD also thank the community for being vigilant and calling in any suspicious activity to help make Manitowoc safe.
