A Greenleaf woman is facing charges after she allegedly dragged a police officer during a traffic stop.
An officer witnessed 36 year old Stephanie Verbeten driving erratically on the interstate near De Pere at around 1:30 Monday morning.
He initiated a traffic stop, and saw she was on her phone.
When asked to hang up, Verbeten reportedly told the officer to “wait a minute.”
She continued to ignore commands from the officer, and never put the car in park.
When the officer attempted to unlock her door, Verbaten reportedly started to drive off, dragging the officer for a short distance before he tumbled into the other lanes of traffic.
The officer pursued Verbaten, and eventually got her to pull over.
A taser was used to get Verbaten to exit the vehicle, and she was placed under arrest. Verbaten has been charged with First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Knowingly Fleeing/Eluding an Officer or Attempting to Flee/Elude an Officer, Operating While intoxicated Causing Injury – 1st Offense, and Obstructing an Officer.
